Cal Spas has been an industry leader for decades. US made, good quality and a myriad of models. As with most manufacturers, Cal offer 3 lines; Good/Better/Best Patio/Escape/Platinum. The Escape and Platinum series are a bit deeper at 40" often providing deeper footwell areas. Most models have two pumps with a third added for the higher jet count. Their Platinum models are very high end. An abundance of power and features, very comfortable seating, but high end pricing around $15k.
Like other manufacturers, Cal Spas offer ozone-based purification. They added a salt-based chlorinator option. We used such systems in our fiberglass pools because they product liquid chlorine very efficiently and because there's no metal for the salt water to attack. Spas have metal heaters. Salt water corrosion is a known fear and I don't recommend salt for spas. The common "ozonator" greatly reduces the harmful chemicals especially when minerals are added routinely. Ozonators last two years and stop producing ozone. It might see the bubbles still and think it's ozone, nut just air cooling down the water. I tell my customers to update to an "ionizer" eventually and before the 2 year ozonator life.
Like other manufacturers, Cal Spas offer small, low power circulation pumps that typically filter the water continuously. The idea is a low energy method of constant circulation. The question is obviously, "does it need constant filtration?" I'm not a fan. The more common method of filtering is with a 2-speed pump, typically Pump (or Jet) 1. When the jet action is turned on the pump runs high speed. Otherwise it comes on low speed, and also low energy, to filter and to heat. Timers set the filtration frequency and often several hours in morning and several in afternoon.
Insulation is big factor when comparing spas. Two common methods are;
We carried Dynasty Spas years ago, before the company was purchased and the whole dealer chain dropped. It took some time but they realized spa dealers do serve a purpose and we were invited back.
Many of the features are similar between Dynasty and Cal; equipment, heaters, filtration, insulation... The main feature Dynasty has the Cal doesn't: "Reverse mold" neck jet areas. Most spas are made by vacuum forming a sheet of acrylic to the mold. When finished the thin acrylic shell is lifted off the mold. Dynasty's models with the spa shell extending over the shoulders utilize the Reverse Mold. The completed acrylic shell can't lift off anymore. It's a 2-step procedure.
The advantage of the Reverse Molded areas is shoulder message. The jet force blasts down from above. The disadvantage is "one seat doesn't fit all". Some might feel too confined, some may be too small. We have them in stock so it's best to come and see how you fit.
SunQest Value-Added; Being a 35 + year old company run by an old mechanical engineer our products are vast and sometimes integrated. Pools are often heated and spas are typically kept over 100o. SunQest has manufactured and installed many solar systems for spas and pools. Often the solar is shared between the pool, spa, domestic hot water and even floors.
Sometimes a deck is needed to support the spa and add to the backyard oasis. We can design it, provide a CAD-based Engineering Drawing for approval, build it, set the spa and get it correctly wired and installed.
Some want a custom built-in spa. Building spas into a deck or ground can offer challenges with design and service, but SunQest is experienced and capable.
